Richmond Road Studio

I worked at Richmond Road Studios until 2009. All members have moved on to individual ventures. Enjoy your visit through the space that we all shared.

Richmond Road Studios is a wharehouse space that was set up  for the Kiln-cast Glass process. We were six artists working full-time as a collective and shared facilities; we also had artists who used the space part-time and this made the process more affordable for everyone, and a lot more fun! Our main open space consisted of large work tables, kilns, hot plates, steamers, small kitchen (very important) and we had a seperate plaster room and finishing areas. We also each had individual spaces where we worked on our art as well. In 2010 all members of the studio pursued individual ventures and we are no longer working as a collective.

artists involved were:

Jenny Smith, Chris Cathie, Lou Pendergrast-Mathieson, Layla Walter, Robyn Irwin, Ainsley Oconnell, Ginny Easterday, and  Nejat Kavaas.

we have a separate plaster room in order to keep dust down in our main area. Making molds is one of the messiest parts of the kiln-casting process!

These are the steamers where we blow hot steam into the molds in order to melt the wax out.

We have 5 kilns that we all share, and they vary in size to accommodate our different sized and shaped work

This is one of our outdoor finishing stations. Running water is important to have flowing over the glass when using polishing and grinding. equipment
