Teaching / Philosophy

Every artist/teacher has a unique background.  We each offer the world a particular perspective because we are individually constructed from our personal childhood experiences, social inteactions, work history, relationships, passions and interests, etc... No one person is more important than another; no mode of expression or thought has a right over another. But we are constantly at battle with the inner critic, social acceptance and the meta-narratives that our particular society and culture throws at us (whether hidden, subtle or obvious!).The artist reacts against these, or works with them, and even ignores them. What each of us has to say is important, and by building an atmosphere of inclusivity, and an awareness of our personal voice (what it is we want to express and how) we are able to weave our "utterances" into the social fabric, and they become part of our pedagogical and artistic practice: to  encourage "voice" to be heard, made present and to be active in conversation with others.
