I use Rhino as the main program in my editing, especially when I am working with the scanned images of landscape. These come into Rhino as a mesh so I use the 'drape' command in order to change it to a surface. I then select portions of the surface to work with and extrude out sections, much like a geologist might select a core sample. 

I use Fusion 360 when I want to create geometric shapes quickly.
