 FOREST FLOOR 2020

A temporary Installation of sculptural drawings made from found
materials in the environment that are returned to the forest floor. (Whistler, Canada)

Created in response to staying close to home and walking in the forest as a daily routine- a slowing and attentiveness to what surrounds us.

materials: Lichen, flowers, moss, pine needles, pine cones, peat, mud, sawdust, sticks and branches.

"Forest Floor" is similar to the other pieces in the "Landform" series in that they are a direct response to the materials found immediately within a particular place.  By re-purposing them, and making them more noticeable, their presence is heightened and made more visible. The location can only be found by walking through the forest, and noticing the sudden accumulation of pieces; it takes a 'paying of attention'. Though they are a collective, they are really only made present by the beauty and strength found in each individual piece. Like the sand in the New Zealand landforms that were taken away by the tide, these pieces will begin to slowly disappear through their own disintegration and assimilation back into the landscape.
