This work is created in response to staying close to home and walking in the forest as a daily routine during Covid lockdowns-a slowing and attentiveness to what surrounds us. It is a temporary installation made from natural materials found in the forest environment. The film documents the slow disintegration of the moulded and frozen shapes back into the forest floor.

"Forest Floor" is a direct response to the materials found immediately within the forest environment in Whistler, BC. By re-purposing natural elements and making them more noticeable, their presence is heightened and made more visible.
The location can only be found by walking through the forest, and noticing the sudden accumulation of pieces; it takes a 'paying of attention'.
These pieces slowly disappear through their own disintegration and are assimilated back into the landscape.

I freeze them into individual moulds to create forms; these are then placed back into the environment and eventually disintegrate in place. The molds are vacuumed formed over 3D prints and originate from my Wonderment and Materialities series.
This work is a temporary site-specific piece and is photographed over several months. I also film the process of pieces melting back into the forest floor.
The film documents the event and is filmed and edited by Seb Judge; the music is created by Max Eberhardt.
Dimensions: each piece is approx. 15cm X 15 cm X 10cm
Materials: Lichen, flowers, moss, pine needles, pine cones, sawdust, sticks and branches are all collected from around the forest environment in Whistler, BC.
