“a passage from one place to another...”
-
The doorhandle and their face-plates are objects that invite a passage: whether a simple move from one room to another, or a metaphor for embracing a journey into the unknown, maybe a transition from one stage to the next? the doorhandle remains solid, a witness, a player in the move, and an eventual narrator of memories.

I use the linen from my late-mother’s linen curtains, and layer them with memories. The doorknob and face-plate shapes are 3D printed: I trace their silhouettes into Rhino 3D, and then print them 5mm thick to create a matrix. These are then inked up and printed using a direct pressure press.
The printed linen is then hung to create overlaps and layered passageways for the viewer to walk around. I print on both sides of the fabric so the doorknobs appear to be three dimensional, and there is a play of colour on both sides of the sheer linen.
