Button boxes

A sculptural series of ‘button boxes’ that emphasizes reuse, repurposing, saving, and mending. Each button is moulded, press-cast in ceramics, and intermingled with cotton threads.

Buttons hold stories and memories
  • This is a series of work that investigates the care found in discovering salvaged haberdashery and the messages from the past that emphasize repurposing, reusing, saving, and mending.

Please follow the links for the individual pieces.

  • Buttons are sourced from my mother’s button collection, my own, and discarded ones. They are then moulded and recreated in ceramics. Glazes or oxides are used to alter the character of the buttons to form an overall visual effect. (i,e to make them look old and rusty, to match and work with the tin they are in, to dwell on a colour scheme.
